Homes are worn out and cold, parents endure the scorching heat of the sun to make ends meet to no avail,
From the lands of sunset to the warm heart of Africa, they work, they toil and strive to put food on the table,
In their minds the offspring must have a better life than them, to be their guiding light in times of old age,
Even through trials and storms their laughter still instils hope, they believe that universe will reward them one day,

The African child wakes up in the morning, full of life to face the day, even though he knows it better,
To acquire knowledge is his goal, to fathom the ways of the world, and break free from tussles of old,
Nothing much to wear he takes his morning meal, gazing around pain and perseverance is all he sees,
With old and torn books, he finds his way to school, a place his heart is at peace, and his mind emboldened,
There, his teachers become the golden light, holding his hand with love, they create in his mind new notions,
All the way from the rainbow nation to distant territories of Cush, a cry for help rings across the land,
In the heart of Africa hunger and anger rules, people take the mantle of misery from their forebears,
For the African child it is distressing to wake up to no promise of good life yet boldly he still takes a step,
A leap of faith for change begins with him, struggles of his parents are enough, he dreams to wipe their tears,
Their miles he will turn into smiles, their pain into gain, a promise of joy even to the end of their sojourn,
From the prairies of the east to the fallow plains of the west, the climb to victory is a laborious journey,
Winds of the north proofs the enduring spirit of mankind and the breeze of the south gives the test,
There is boldness that drives the African child to seek a better future, to face the provocations of life,
For to win, his boldness will come in handy, a brighter light he seeks, to light the path for others after him,
The struggles are many yet his spirit is unbroken, his heart is strong, a changemaker, the African child.
The life of an African child is a grapple

Born in times of great strife, his life knows no peace, struggles every step of the way, pain is the new normal,
The African child looks up every night, hoping for the stars to shine and light his path, the way to his destiny,
What he sees instead are clouds of uncertainty, cold breeze adding to his agony, a defeated soul his stature,
Yet in all this he dares to dream, strives to make a name for himself, for he knows that a man must live and let live,
At the strike of morning light he wakes up, with a new hope, for it is the time to face the test of life, try one more,
In his heart burns a desire for a better future, and knowledge is what will earn him the status and respect from peers,
His school is at a distance, with no shoes he walks, his clothes with patches of dissimilar colors not alluring,
But his eyes fixed on the goal, his resilience an attribute to behold, his hands are ready to write his destiny,
At home poverty has them in its grip, parents struggle with no relief in sight, each day brings forth more pain,
Tears flow like a river from his eyes, the heart bears the weight of penury, his hands hardened with fiery heat of sun,
Nights are long, dark and cold, he worries for his siblings, for they seem fragile to face the trials and storms of life,
In his mind he must be strong, their future is in hands, he has to purpose to triumph, let them shine and be happy,
Like the river flowing into the sea his school becomes a sanctuary, in there he escapes the loneliness and hard life,
A make shift structure becomes his well of mastery, his teacher’s patient with him, a seed of victory sown in his mind,
The world his playground, like a player he must score for his future, like the sun lighting the sky to light his home,
Joy comes in the morning, struggle precedes success and it is always dark before the first light, this he knows well,
His heart keeps the stories told of his ancestors’ struggles, their lives of determination to beat shades of poverty,
Their unity to hold together is a testament that he needs others to hold his hand, for the stairs of success are slippery,
The outside world is not for the fearful, with no compass victory is not guaranteed and no chance to make a difference
In all this, his spirit is bold and unbroken, he wakes up full of pride, one day he will be a leader and usher in a golden era,
The locale will see a new light, an idea that heralds a better change, time when Africa rises, to take a spot in world stage.
